Since I started this mess, I guess I should repeat why I am so
interested. I have posted this before but it has been a long time ago.

I was coming back from Huntsville, AL with a M1010 ambulance body on my
flatbed trailer that I had bought at DRMO. It had started to rain and
I also had some stuff in the back of my 1998 GMC dually. So I stopped
at a truck stop and was putting a tarp over the back of the truck. A
guy come up and introduces himself as an instructor for the Ala DOT.
He thought he would be helpful and inform me that if any of the
officers he trained stopped me it would cost about $2000 to $3000 in
fines. I was using a trailer my dad had made in 1975. It is made from
mobil home axles and is 20 ft long. It had 3 axles at the time and
that seemed to be what he was most concerned with. He made that
comment that automatically put me over 26000. I have since removed one
of them. He didn't seem to think it made any difference if it was my
own stuff or not. That has been about 6 years ago. I do all of my MV
driving locally and I am not worried about getting stopped close to
home. My main interest is trailering when I go to get the MV's and
other hobby stuff I buy from DRMO and when I go to MV shows to buy,
sell and trade. I am sorry some of you feel this is off topic but
staying out of trouble with the law with your MV hobby is on topic in
my book.
