Re: what kind of 6x6 transfer case/driveshaft setup is this?

Economics,

The WW II CCKW Jimmy 6X6 was built this way for
ease of production and repair cost. A power
divider like most trucks of today splits the
power to one driven wheel only until the driver
engaged the manual power divider into the lock
position then feeding power to both axles when in
a slippery terrain. By eliminating the power
divider and feeding power to both axles you do
accelerate wear on the rear drives but has much
better off road operation without engaging the
front axle. Universal joint fails in combat?
remove drive shaft and throw in cargo bed and get
outa Dodge.

A broken power divider will stop a truck dead in
its wheels where as the dual drive shaft setup
will not.

Yes you can power the truck on one rear axle BUT
expect to get hung up with one wheel spinning on
the street going into and out of driveways and
parking lots with the 6X6 configuration....I
recommend leaving it Military configuration.
