Sounds like I wasn't specific enough.....

Military vehicles commonly have pioneer racks, brackets, or other
provisions to hold an ax, a shovel, and sometimes a pick mattock. I am
aware that some are specifically manufactured for military use. I don't
believe that most MV's were furnished from the local retailer. I simply
wondered if there was a way to tell military from civilian, other than
green paint.
