Yes, you can add lockout hubs to a M-38. They should just be a bolt on
addition. I have a really early set of Warn hubs on my 1944 Willys.
These accomplish the same thing as lockouts. You will not however gain
that much more speed with lockouts. I would guess maybe 60 mph tops.
The lockouts are more to lessen the strain on your frontend and
driveline. A overdrive unit would be better for gaining speed, however
you don't want to go too much faster than 60 in one of those old jeeps
anyway!!! As far as finding a M-38 goes I would join the MVPA
(WWW.MVPA.org) they publish Supply Line which is a classified magazine
for MV's. I would also encourage you to join you local MVPA chapter.
The East coast has quite a few active chapters. Alot of times members
will have vehicles for sale that the public doesn't get a crack at.
They are also a great source of info for those just starting out.
