I have been in the welding field for 16 years now and I disagree with you
analysis. First, the tig process has a much wider degree of control. On
thin metal you can't beat the tig process because you can run at a much lower
amperage. Mig can not run at low amperages without getting a condition
called cold lapping. Also on thin metal it very dificult to fill holes
especially around rust areas. The tig proces is used on virtually all
metals. I used it extensively on tool steels and a variety of exotic metals
where mig can't. Yes high frequency does facilitate easier starting but
scratch start is not difficult. Mig also will put more heat input to the
base metal which everyone knows causes warping which in turn leads to more
bondo. I'll stacka tig up against the mig any day. John
