[MV] Willys Pronunciation

Rob,

I believe the Willys company was named after a Mr. Willys. When I was a child, I never heard it pronounced other than "WIL-iss" I believe that some people began confusing it with the first name "Willy" --a degenerate form of William. Some people--the unwashed illitarati?--are unaware that "Willys Jeep" is not the same thing as "Willy's Jeep." It does sound right if one doesn't know that an apostrophe is required to indicate the possessive. If Willy had a Jeep then it was Willys Jeep, right? Arghh! That really grates on my nerves!

My apologies to everyone on the list named Willy!

I'll eat crow if I'm wrong. Maybe someone on the list can enlighten us as to the founder of Willys Overland Motors?
