The heater you mention is probably the South Wind model 978 made by Stewart
Warner Corp. I have one of these on one of my M211's. There were about 5
or 6 different revisions of the model 978, but the exhaust seems to be same
on all.
There should be an exhaust pipe that runs from the bottom of the heater
down toward the frame under the cab. It is a flex pipe approx 1 1/2" in
diameter. The 5 1/4" plate that you mention is the opening for the air
intake for the heater. There should be a grill over this hole and it
should match up to the air intake on the heater. I have just purchased the
manuals for these heaters if you have any more questions.
