Thought I'd throw my couple o'pennies worth into the fray: from my old VW
days, we always thought detergent oils were worth having unless the engine
had already been run with non-detergent oil. The thinking was you wouldn't
want to switch from ND to Detergent, since it might pick up a lot of junk
that had been lying about in the motor. Maybe superstition, but it sounded
good to me!
