While serving as the Company Commander of a National Guard Infantry Comapny in
Washington State one of my troops was at my house looking at my photos from
Germany. Amongst the photos was a picture of a Bundeswehr DKW Munga 4x4 military
"jeep" from the late 1959. I had left the vehicle in Germany because I feared
that parts would be difficult to find in the States as there were impossible to
find in Germany. The trooper insisted that he had seen two of these vehicles just
a few miles away in a barn just outside of Spokane. I told him that it was
impossible, but he insisted that we take the trip to look them over. As it turned
out I ended up with two 1959 DKW Mungas that had been in the barn for years, along
with a truck load of new and used parts after tracing the owner down, more than I
had ever seen in Germany.

Leads may often take you on a wild goose chase, but every once in while you hit
pay dirt. Not every expedition pays, but then it would not be fun nor an
adventure if they did. Just my opinion, after all half the fun is the hunt. I
can buy a new Wrangler and pick the color I want just down the street at the jeep
dealer, any day, any time. Finding a real treasure takes time and travel. If
anyone has any leads, I'll follow them to the ends of the earth!
