<< I'd get a (loud) kind of "rough" sound as if the starter
was spinning furiously but not connecting.
Now I'm getting that sound about 3 or 4 times for _every_ 1 time it
actually starts.. >>
Is it possible that the teeth on your flywheel ring gear are not in the best
of shape? I would check this out, it might not be the starter at all. Did you
bench test the starter before you installed it?
