As far as I know the vacuum lines are there to vent the distributor and
have nothing to do with ignition advance. Without the venting, points burn.
You might have a problem with the condenser or coil. When the motor
"chokes down" and stops, you have to quickly do a series of tests. Does
it still have strong spark at the plug? I've had ignition components fail
while hot, then perform again after cooling down. Are you still getting a good
gas supply to the carb? A partially clogged fuel filter can cause the problem.
