Hi Juan,

Best thing is to first go to the library and borrow some books on
wooden boat building. Bending wood to shape is a VERY common building
technique.

Also check out issues of a magazene called "Wooden Boat". It will have
articles and well illustrated.

Also look to books on building wooden canoes (a real early MV...Used
by the British for amphibious assults in the real "first world war"
the one in 1753...French and Indian War)

Getting books on steam bending will be the best help as it shows pics
and gives times for steaming and what the wood forms look like.

If you build a platform from plywood, you can glue/screw blocks down
every 3 inches or so at the curve and follow the tracing of the bow's
needed outline. then using C clamps, start with the least curve and
work your way around the sharpest bend. Don't be in a hurry to take it
loose...all the hard part is done. Let it dry and then unclamp it.

Building a steamer will be shown in the books, but a long length of
PVC pipe or stove pipe will do you. You are just trying to contain the
hot, moist air around the wood so it softens the fiber, not cook it
like a lobster. So, you can cobble together some connecting piping
from the steaming box (called that even if it is pipe) to a pot or
kettle sitting on some heat source.

Anyway, go look at the boatbuilding books...best bet!

Cheers,
Jim

water many years ago<grin>)

Anyone have any idea how to arch the wooden top bows for a cargo bed?
