Hi all,
I've never used the "shiny paint under the OD paint" technique. But it sounds
pretty smart to me! I always use PPG Epoxy Primer as the sealer coat to keep
the moisture out. Its very tough & durable. Plus some of the different types
will self etch.( creating very good bonding) The other neat thing about this
primer is that it can be tinted to a close proximity of the color you're going
to spray. This way it uses less OD paint by covering the primer faster.
The down side is that it gets very hard 24 hours after spraying. If you wait
more than 24 hours between the epoxy primer & the next coat (regular primer,
sealer, paint), you have to lightly resand & reprime with epoxy primer.
If you want to know the proper procedures for a given paint (any major brand)
the place where you buy it will be able to give you pamphlets about each
product, its attributes & what to do or not do. From primer to clearcoats (a
dirty word in the MV community).
Hopefully I wasn't too long winded,
Darryl Bauman Jr
