Guess I wasn't clear enough in expressing my thoughts. You see, as a
motorcycle owner/rider here in NJ, I am constantly aware of new laws
being proposed that will have a detrimental effect on motorcyclists. One
of the problems we have in New Jersey is the mandatory wearing of a
helmet. Now don't go off on a tangent about the safety(?) aspects of
wearing a helmet while I'm engaged in riding my scooter, it's a matter of
personal choice (freedom do decide) that has been taken from us. I
belong to United ABATE (American Bikers Aimed Towards Education)
of NJ, a nonpartisan organization, dedicated to safety and awareness,
and preserving the rights and freedoms of motorcycling. One of the
main tools we use is letter writing. It's an important tool. We use it.
We write to State Senators and Congressional Representatives. This
is what we military vehicle owners need to do. Write! Write often! Then
when you think they get the point, write and remind them. This is the
way ABATE operates. You can do this as an individual, you don't have
to have a national organization, but if someone out there can spearhead
the establishment of a like organization for us MV'ers, let's go for it. I
just don't think that the MVPA is the organization for this endeavor.

PS: Through our efforts, we have a bill in Trenton that will modify the
current helmet law by allowing riders over a certain age, with riding
experience, the choice to wear or not to wear a helmet.
