Greetings all,
Arthur, I'm certain most of the members would be willing to chip in some
sort of fee to keep you running the way things work now.
I think I have a workable solution to your current volume problem.
- I am curious as to the percentage of traffic that is made up of
individuals answering individuals. Perhaps if we kept the traffic limited to
all hands notices, all hands replies, and military vehicle related threads
that didn't unravel into meaningless gobbledygook? I suspect if you did a
survey of old traffic, you'd find that 30% of it didn't need to be posted as
a "reply to all" message, and another 10% was either non mv related, or had
wandered off track to the point that it didn't belong on the list any
further, but should've been confined to the individual members anxious to
continue their diatribes between themselves.
HOPEFULLY if the members of the list realize they are facing extinction,
perhaps they will excercise the self control and common sense they often seem
to leave in the drawer when they belly up to the ol' keyboard? Possibly you
could announce a "voluntary reduction of spurious (stupid) traffic and if the
results were sufficient, you could continue in the sterling manner to which
you have become accustomed? I wonder if you agree that the "reply to all"
traffic is the thing that's killing us, and making reading the mail often a
tedious odious duty? Or would it be the "ad nauseum" threads where folks
with nothing better to do sit and write email after email?
Your thoughts, O Grand Vizier of the List!
