John ,

I had a Carter carburetor on a M38A1 doing a similar leaking problem. I
would recommend backing the inlet fitting out and wrapping with Teflon tape
a couple of times and screwing it back in and then turn it fairly snug with
a wrench. Fairly snug the art of not twisting it off or stripping your
treads. Experience is the best teacher! And I still do it on occasion.
Your float may also be sticking a bit or you have an excessive about of
pressure being delivered from your fuel pump.

Thinking of selling huh? Send me an email of where your located and how
much you are wanting. I am in the market for one that needs a bit of work.

Thanks and good luck with the leak.

Cliff

Subject: [MV] M38 question carb question

>drove my m38 last night to dust of the cobwebs and when I was finished I
looked under the hood and saw a small amount of fuel seeping from the carb.
It seeps out very slowly where the fuel line goes into the carb, but I do
not see any threads or anything that would tighten.

>This is a vehicle that I wish to sell as a restoration project, so I do not
want to buy a bunch of new parts, I was wondering if some silicone gasket
maker around the fuel line where it meets the carb will make it safe for
intested parties to test drive without an engine fire, or is there another
simple fix? (my friend who was there at the time said "plumbers
putty"???!!!!????)
>I drove it for about 25 minutes last night and it ran great without
bursting into flames but if I smell gas fumes when I open the hood, I get
nervous.
>
>Once the fuel pressure goes down, it stops seeping and it is probably two
drops per minute when it leaks. Evaporates almost as fast as it seeps.
