The local military vehicle club I belong to up here in Alaska has
several members that are also members of a local classic car club. This
allows us a voice in the car shows that they have and helps promote
friendship between the two clubs. Plus this past weekend the local Air
Force and Army bases had the grand opening of their new joint
BX/Commissary and they asked our Mil-Veh club if we could bring out
some trucks for the weekend. We had a WC12, WC21, and a WC9 Ambulance.
All of which were built in 1941. For those of you that get the MVPA
publication Supply Line, look at the photo on page 10 and the photo at
the bottom left part of page 12 of the Sept/Oct '99 issue. The WC21 on
page 10 is actually owned by the same guy that owns the WC9 Ambulance.
He's the second person from the left in the photo. Dave was not able
to finish his truck in time to bring it to the MVPA convention so he
came along to drive the WC21 back up the AlCan. The forth vehicle we
had at the grand opening was an M38 owned by another club member. The
response we got was pretty good and we gave out flyers as to who we
are and what we do in the club.

I was fortunate enough to be allowed to drive the WC9 to and from the
base. It was fun to watch the heads turn when they realized what was
going down the road. I think we nearly caused an accident or two as
some people were paying more attention to the trucks then the road. 8-)
After we got the WC21 and WC9 back to the owners house he let me take
the WC21 for a spin around the block. Now I can't wait to get my hands
on a M43 that I just made a deal on and get to work on it. Unfortunately
it is missing a lot of parts and has had several strange brackets welded
on by a previous owner but the body has very little rust. It was built
in July of 1962. Needless to say I will be asking a lot of M37/M43
questions over the next several months as I try to piece this truck
back together. Now if I could just get my '64 Dodge W200 Air Force
ambulance sold to help me get the M43 running sooner.
