The military 1.5 ton tagalong trailers have air over hydraulic brakes. They
are not like commercial air brake trailers which need air pressure to release
the brakes. The early trailers have a service and emergency air line
connection. The emergency line fills the air tank on the trailer and this air
pressure is used to operate the brakes through a control valve which is
actuated by the service line during braking. Later trailers eliminated this
mess and just feed the service line directly to the
air-hydraulic cylinder.
