ok guys, i think there is some mis-information about ether.......the
hmmwv engine is a glow plug start engine and will not start without glow
plugs hot. the glow plugs are in a small chamber that the injection
nozzle sprays into. never under any circumstances use ether on a glow
plug engine. never, never, never. using it one short time will
seriously and permanently destroy the glow plugs. the other type of
diesel is direct injection, like in an m-35. on this engine the
injection nozzle sprays onto the top of the piston, or into a cavity in
it. this type of diesel will normally start down to at least 20 degrees
if you spin it fast enough (good batteries) you can, if needed use a
VERY small amount, but it is at your own risk. this can break very
expensive things and shorten engine life like you wouldn't believe.
better to preheat the air. (the flame heater does this, or use a propane
torch aimed into the air intake)
