the ldt and lds head gasket is called a 3 piece gasket. each head has 4
separate parts to the head gasket. there is the somewhat ordinary gasket
that seals oil and water, and for compression there is a steel ring that
sits in this main gasket. under normal situations this works very well
and will last a very long time. turning up the fuel rate is something
that i have done to all my trucks, and it gives you a lot more power and
can still be well within the capacity of the engine to be reliable. but
i am an expert diesel mechanic and know what i am doing. anyone who does
this on their own with out knowledge and a pyro gauge will likely damage
the engine. you will not damage the head gasket by turning up the fuel
unless there are other issues already present, like a poor radiator or
already warped heads. what you will do is burn a hole through a piston.
the higher heats generated will melt the first thing that gets too hot.
i think aluminum melts around 1440f. if you have failed gaskets to
replace there are several things you must also do. check radiator for
flow. have heads resurfaced and checked for cracks. when you are done
check manifold pressure. if it never goes over 9 psi, you will never
have problems.
