thanks for the welcome.

honestly, that piece is a bit before my time. Power steering.. a luxury in
most of what I worked on had no power steering. All I can do is tell you to
start troubleshooting, if that pump is original, and the resevoir is full,
it is probably time for a long overdue rebuild of that poor pump, or time to
replace it. Sorry I can't be of more help there.

Welcome, Lee! Nice to have you aboard. I'll fire off the first question:
I am working on a friend's 1953 M51 5 ton dump truck that has been
converted to carry a 15 ton Bucyrus-Erie crane. The power steering
doesn't. I suspect the gear pump, which is hooked on to the Continental
R6602 gas engine, up front. I cracked open the hydraulic line coming
out of the pump and didn't get anything to squirt. Fluid is full in the
reservoir. Do you have any experience working on the old style power
steering on these beasts? The whole steering system is right there at
the base of the steering column. There is no remote steering jack, like
on more modern power steering sytems.
Your experience will be greatly welcomed, here. Jim Hossack
