The axle in only "totally supported" when the splines are mated with the
flange. I understand that they don't turn with the wheel or by themselves,
but they have enough movement when unsupported to hit the inside edges of
the spindle housing. I would prefer to have the end supported and not moved
around by vibrations. If your shocks are bad there will be vibrations.
