Then please explain why they bought the Melborne
in 1985 to act as a model and as a training
platform (albeit static) for pilots to fly from
and land on? Then in 2000 Varyag, hte Kiev and
Minsk were acquired. In 1995, the Minsk was sold
for scrapping to a South Korean firm but
purchased by a Chinese firm for $5 Million. The
Kiev was purchased in 1998. The Varyag was
purchased for 3 times its scrap value. I would
greatly prefer that they not get a much more
modern design that was in service up until 1996.
Granted it's not cutting edge, but it's only one
generation behind the Enterprise class carriers
which we still operate.
