Organizations under IRS section 501 are non-profit and donations are deductible under the
IRS rules. They are restricted to educational, charitable, and similar activities and are
specifically prohibited from political activity. Violation of the rules can get the tax
deductible status revoked which would cause havoc with fund raising. That may indeed keep
MVPA out of this issue.

This is another way the government can control private groups. Once you ask for something
from the government (tax status, grant money etc) you are forever in their grip. NRA has
avoided the trap but you can't deduct your NRA dues.
