>While not quite military my question is vehicle oriented. Does anybody
know anything about the performance of vehicles that run on compressed
natural gas. My friend is looking at a van powered by this gas. I imagine
they are less polluting but do they have any power? Any other info would be
helpful........Alan

Welcome to British Columbia Canada. The land where the government gave you a
loan to install propane or Natural gas.The land where that kind of stuff is
cheap, like wood and peaches and corn. But now, like wood and peaches and corn
we pay more than most that don't have.
I drove cab for awhile on propane.A 12 hour shift for about a tank of
propane but a tank and a half if your foot was constantly on the
floor.Gelling problems in the winter.Lots of mileage out of the motors and
clean. But many cabbies here are going back to gas.Less problems and cheaper
in the long run.
I have heard from others that Propane and natural gas work best on larger
engines like truck engines.Caterpillar here is playing with propane
injection into the diesels for more power.
A friend has a van on natural gas but it is set up as dual fuel.Gas and
naturalgas on a switch.Lousy mileage and distance for both. The compromise
situation is no good.Go one or the other.
My distorted opinion
Andre
